One of my projects for BURPG was to make a pintle injector that could be used for the VEGAS test stand. The process of making this injector included fluid calculations, O-ring sizing, and several design reviews from senior members in order to ensure a viable product. The final result for this project was a carbon steel pintle injector that catered to requirements regarding material cost, mass flow rate needs, and manufacturability.
Through this design process, I was able to learn many valuable lessons, such as gauging the viability of an idea and whether it fits the use case of the broader project. In the carousel below, the design iterations of the pintle injector can be seen from V1 to V9.
